Hall of Heroes

Mark Friday,  April 17, 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church on your calendars.   This is for kids third grade and up.

The event will start at 7:00 p.m., but the kids need to set up their display boards and register beforehand.

Have your child choose a famous person based on his/her history studies, or simply on interest level.  (NOTE; please pick a character who lived AFTER Bible times for this project.  Your character should be reasonably well-known so that research in a library setting is profitable.)  The next step is for  your student to enjoy learning all he can about this person from library books, the internet, encyclopedias, etc.  The student should read AT LEAST one book and one other source of information.  SHHHHHHHH!!!  DON'T TELL ANYONE whom you choose!

Hall of Heroes gives your child a chance to dress up like this person and celebrate his/her research for an evening.  First, the parents and guests circulate among the students and ask them questions from a list previously given (& researched by ) your child.  The parents try to guess the identity of as many heroes as they can in the time given.

Afterwards, the heroes tell who they are and give a brief description of why they are famous.  (They should be prepared to give a mini-speech 1 min or so on their character) Then everyone goes to another room to see the display boards (with research paper, acrostic, pictures etc.) and to sample the foods brought to represent the heroes (from moon pies for an astronaut to gingerbread for an early American figure.)
